Mama Tamu Kanyama, is a daughter, sister, wife, mother and best friend who was born in Georgia but raised in Milwaukee. For thirty-five years she served as a public and private school teacher. As a life-long activist and organizer, she’s been a member of the Republic of New Afrika, among it’s infamous RNA-11, and a founding member of the African Community Center for Unity and Self Determination. Currently she’s an active member of the Us Lifting US Economic Development Cooperative. She Stood strong against Cointelpro, imprisonment, racism, and sexism; 1148 Lewis St. chronicles the journey of an activist and nation builder who dared to dream of Afrikan Sovereignty! Tamu is a humble leader, that’s fully committed, who believes “Unity is Strength.”
