DESCRIPTION:Civil Rights Exhibit\nThe traveling display has been created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Milwaukee’s fair housing marches. Called "Crossing the Line: The Fair Housing Marches of 1967-1968\," it reproduces photographs and documents from the Society’s collection in Madison. Its eight panels examine the practices and prejudices that led to segregation in Milwaukee and chronicle the school desegregation and fair housing movements of the 1960s.

DESCRIPTION:Urban Heroes\, Urban Wood Art Show and Reception\, Friday\, February 17\, From 03:00 PM - 06:00 PM\nFresh Perspective Art Collective\, the Wisconsin Black Historical Society\, and members of Wisconsin Urban Wood are pleased to present a groupexhibition honoring Milwaukee’s most influential black citizens. "Urban Heroes\, Urban Wood" will run from February 17 to March 17\, 2017 at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society and Museum\, located at 2620 W. Center St.\, in Milwaukee. \n\nAn opening reception will be held on Friday\, February 17\, from 3-6 p.m. Members of the press will be granted early access for photographs and interviews with the artists from 1-3 p.m. Both the exhibit and opening reception are free of charge. \n\nFourteen artists from Fresh Perspective Art Collective will be featured in the show: Ken Brown\, Cri-Edward Chapman\, Alicia Christine\, Marco Daniels\, DarvellEcford\, Luther Hall\, William Harrell\, Bennie Higgins\, Willie LaMar\, Larry Leake\, Michelle Lea\, Darron Reed\, Bobby Sanford\, and Willie Weaver-Bey.\nThe works completed for "Urban Heroes\, Urban Wood" together share the story of Milwaukee’s Black Community through paintings and photographs displayed on wood from Milwaukee ash trees. Some of the honored subjects include Isaac and Marcia Coggs\, Joshua Glover\, Annette Polly Williams\, and Eric Von.\n
